How to Make a Frothy Turmeric Latte at Home

I happen to love Mondays. A turmeric latte in hand, and I can conquer anything. Such as that dreaded pile of bills, the pile of dishes, the pile of laundry, the email replies. I can handle it all with a glowing smile, because I make these luscious turmeric lattes at home and everything is golden.

I’ll give you a few recipes for my Monday Motivation. Once of them is get up early and make a turmeric latte (recipe below). Then I get on with positive vibes (Mozart playlist, Daily Greatness business planner, two active Mac Book laptops, a paper “list” plus a chalkboard “vision” board, and a dry erase calendar. Oh, and post-its. I write down ideas, thoughts, and all kinds of things on post-it notes and place them on my calendar. It takes effort to organize my creative brain, so these things help me focus.

Another way is limiting myself on social media. Facebook notification pop-up? Resist the urge to laugh at funny dog videos for a moment. (Don’t worry– they will still be there when you’re ready to take a break, I promise.) Resist the temptation to get scattered in thought, because you have some Monday looking at you. You gotta reply back to Monday with enthusiasm!

Another reason why I love Mondays, is because I am frequently my own critic, and Mondays give me that fresh start attitude I need to reboot my vision. If you can think of Monday as a reset button, then you can find some renewed attitude of gratitude in Monday too.

But first, turmeric lattes. 

Here is how I make my homemade turmeric latte that you’ve lusted for on Instagram. I’ve since modified the recipe so it makes sense to you, because when I’m in my kitchen, I just do things and forget how I did them. Here’s my recipe… feel free to change it and make it your own.

A homemade turmeric latte to make your day brighter 🌟✨💛✨💛 • •3 tsp ground turmeric -or- fresh grated turmeric root •1 cup almond milk •1 tsp vanilla extract •1 tsp grated fresh ginger •5 green cardamom pods, crushed with pestle or pound in cloth to open them •2 tsp fresh grated cinnamon stick (@freshcinnamon has amazing cinnamon & grater – mine in photo) •3 medjool dates, pitted •1/2 tablespoons honey (optional) •• put all ingredients into small saucepan on stove and bring to gentle simmer. Allow the ingredients to steep a few minutes. Strain into high speed blender (I use my @vitamix ) and blend on high until frothy. • • I had fully intended on blending the dates into the latte, however, I plunked all the cardamom in and couldn't blend that up. Maybe keep the dates out when simmering the spices and add the dates once strained would've been a better idea. Turmeric is a root very similar to ginger, yet earthy in taste and bright orange in color. We know turmeric as one of the main spices in curry, but now it’s all about the golden latte. Turmeric root itself has so many healing properties that it has reached to top of the medicinal herb list, and there are over 6,000 medical articles that seek to prove its benefits. We can drink up our golden turmeric lattes in good health anytime, not just to combat Monday blues.

What if you want your turmeric latte now and you don’t have any cardamom pods? Oh gosh, just don’t stress. Leave them out. The basic recipe is simply turmeric + milk + sweetener. The rest is just fancy pants stuff. 



3 tsp ground turmeric -or- fresh grated turmeric root
1 cup almond milk (or coconut milk)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp grated fresh ginger root (optional if you like it gingery)
3-5 green cardamom pods, crushed
2 tsp fresh grated cinnamon -or- ground cinnamon
2 Medjool dates, pitted
1/2 tbl honey (optional)


Put all ingredients (except dates) into a small saucepan on stove and bring to a gentle simmer. Turn off flame and allow spices to steep in the milk, approximately 10-15 minutes.

Strain the milk into a high-speed blender (like Vitamix). I use a chinois (China cap strainer) to strain the ingredients. If you need a makeshift strainer, use a mesh colander. Either toss the strained cardamom pods or put them back into your saucepan to make another batch of turmeric latte later.

Add dates to the milk in blender and blend on the highest speed until frothy. You can reheat the turmeric latte on the stove top if you’d like. If the dates match your idea of the perfect sweetness, great! If not, add a little honey. I know some vegans consider honey as “not vegan” so I call it a “bee-gan” recipe when adding honey. Maple syrup works too.

Serve in a mug and sprinkle some cinnamon on top. Enjoy!
